The Church of St Sophia

The Church of St Sophia in Nessebar, also known as the Old Metropolitan Church, is one of the most emblematic landmarks of the town, with its impressive arches and preserved ruins from the V-VI century. This three-nave basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was once the religious centre of Nessebar and a striking example of early Christian architecture.

"St. Sophia is a three-nave basilica with an impressive length of about 25 metres and a width of 13 metres. Although only a ruin today, the structure and details of the building remain recognisable - the high stone and brick arches and the rows of windows that once let in natural light, giving the interior a majestic feel.

Today, the ruins of St Sophia attract history buffs and tourists alike, who can enjoy the view while relaxing in one of the cosy cafes and restaurants around the ruins, creating a unique atmosphere that combines history with modern comfort.
