Old Nessebar
Nessebar, a historic seaside town on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, is known as the "Pearl of the Black Sea" and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983. With a history dating back to the ancient Greek colony of Mesembria in the 6th century BC, the town showcases its rich past through narrow cobbled streets, ancient walls, and scattered ruins of churches. The remnants of various civilizations, including coins, pottery, and tools, provide evidence of the town's diverse cultural influences. Nessebar is famous for its medieval churches, each with its own unique story, such as the Church of St. Stephen with its preserved frescoes and icons, and the ruins of St. Sophia Basilica. Alongside these historical treasures, Nessebar has transformed into a bustling tourism hub that offers modern amenities, attracting visitors seeking both a seaside holiday and an immersion in the history of Bulgaria and the Balkans.
